The main objectives of the Agency, as provided in Decree 100 of 1993, are to ensure that Government programmes and policies are better understood by the general public and: Mobilize favourable public opinion for such programmes and policies.
Counselling and Rehabilitation department is one of the core departments in NAPTIP. The department, under section 9 subsection 3(a) and (b) of Trafficking in Persons Prohibition and law Enforcement Act 2003 as amended, is entrusted with the rehabilitation and counseling of victims of human trafficking. The department is headed by a seasoned social worker with over thirty-one years experience in social work practice. Presently, the staff strength of the department is one hundred and seven (107) with varying degrees of professional experience.
From inception of the Agency to Dec 2021 a total of seventeen thousand, two hundred and forty-two (17,242) victims have been referred to the department. Four thousand, five hundred and eighty-four (4,584) are male while twelve thousand, six hundred and fifty-eight (12,658) are female. One hundred and Ninety-One (191) of the trafficked persons assisted by the department were empowered to return to school or acquire vocational training. While additional five hundred and sixty-one (561) were further supported to establish their own businesses through the donation of trade equipment and provision of resettlement allowance to enable them cater for their personal needs.
The department collaborates with relevant government ministries, agencies, NGOs and development partners in realizing its mandate. It is divided into five sections/units and each has distinctive roles to play in realizing the mandate of the department. The sections are -:
Rehabilitation Section
Provides direct assistance to trafficked persons and this includes counseling and rehabilitation services. Vocational services provided to trafficked persons include knitting, weaving, fashion design, hair dressing, catering, hat making, beads making and photography.
Counselling methods adopted by the section in order to help the victims recover from trauma include psychosocial therapy, individual counseling, group counseling, career counseling, family counseling and case conferencing.

Federal Commissioner (National Commission for Refugees, Migrant, and Internally Displaced person) had a meeting with the Tripartite Working Group (TWG) and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHCR) concerning the people to be repatriated from Chad and Cameroon.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE NIGERIAN REFUGEES.
In the case of Cameroon, the number of people to be repatriated is about 14,000 while in the case of Chad, the number of people to be repatriated is about 6,000. However, the government is not forcing any of them to return to this country. Arrangements are ongoing to profile those willing to return and the time frame is within the next two months.

In April 2025, Gidan Bayani received a heartfelt message through its Facebook Messenger platform. A resident of Damaturu reached out on behalf of a little girl named Hauwa, who urgently needed medical care her family couldn’t afford.
The message
"Hello Gidan Bayani, I’m sending you the details of Hauwa, a three-and-a-half-year-old girl battling a condition affecting her navel. Her parents can’t afford the treatment. Kindly look into her case and help connect her with those who can support her. This little girl deserves a chance to heal and thrive."
The Call for Help
Hauwa, a lively 3-year-old from Tandari, Potiskum, had been battling an illness affecting her navel for months. One morning, her mother noticed she wasn’t her usual cheerful self. She had a fever, was withdrawn, and a swelling had appeared around her navel.
She was rushed to the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum, where she received immediate care, including a blood transfusion. However, her condition worsened, and the hospital advised the family to seek specialized care at either the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital or Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu.
A Swift Response
With limited resources, the family turned to the public - and then to Gidan Bayani. The message reached our team, who treated it as a high-priority case. We quickly contacted Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu, and Hauwa was asked to report to the emergency unit for evaluation.
At the hospital, doctors assessed her and offered a referral to either Zaria or Kano for specialized attention.
The Journey Continues
Determined to get her the help she needed; Hauwa’s family made the trip to Zaria. There, doctors conducted an initial assessment and asked them to return for further care. Through every step, Gidan Bayani’s team kept in touch, offering encouragement and checking in on Hauwa’s progress.
A Bright Turn
Finally, during one of our routine follow-ups via the toll-free line, Hauwa’s mother shared the good news: Hauwa was scheduled for surgery. The next day, another message arrived - the operation was successful, and Hauwa was stable, smiling, and on the road to recovery.
